Michael R. Bleich PhD, RN, FAAN, FNAP

Dr. Michael Bleich became president and Maxine Clark and Bob Fox Dean and Professor at the Goldfarb School of Nursing in August 2012, having held positions in higher education in Oregon, Kansas, and Wisconsin. He also held an academic role as chair and professor in health policy and management in the School of Medicine and CEO of KU HealthPartners, both at the University of Kansas.

Nationally and internationally recognized as a speaker on nursing trends and issues tied to leadership, health systems, and policy, he has addressed major nursing, public, physician, and governance audiences. He holds awards and honors that include the 2011 Luther Christman Award by the American Assembly for Men in Nursing, the McArthur Award for work on the Institute of Medicine’s report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, and the University of Minnesota’s School of Nursing Humanitarian Award. He was inducted as a fellow into the American Academic Nursing, and, in 2013, into the National Academies of Practice.

Internationally, he is president of the Commission of Graduates of Foreign Schools of Nursing (CGFNS) (2014-2016). He serves/has served on technical and advisory committees for HRSA, the Governance and Picker Institutes, AHA/AONE, and the IOM; is on the editorial board of the American Journal of Nursing, the Journal of Nursing Education; and is associate editor of a column on leadership and development for the Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing.

Dr. Bleich has championed organizational and health systems research and its rapid uptake through implementation science, notably in the areas of workforce planning and migration, care model development, interprofessional education and practice, and diversity and inclusion.
