113 - Reading Body Language for Nursing Safety

Nurses are front-line workers in the healthcare industry and encounter over 20,000 assaults per year. This session aims to reduce victimization (nurse assaults) by arming the nursing profession with understanding and tactics to prevent attacks from happening as well as personal safety. We will zero in on body language behaviors that are displayed by those that intend to assault. Knowing these pre-assaultive behaviors can play a vital role in your daily work life.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe nurse assault statistics
  • List the mental thought process an attacker will use prior to an attack
  • Describe the body language indicators of a person ready to attack, describe the verbal indicators of a person ready to attack, and list the steps you can take to protect yourself from an attack.
