This session addresses the need for medical-surgical nurses to help link veterans to available resources inside and outside of the VHA. Common health conditions associated with era of service, methods to engage/communicate with veterans, efforts to utilize the military/veteran-centered assessment tools to identify unique vulnerabilities affecting social determinants of health in veterans, and ways to facilitate resource allocation to reduce risks are addressed.
