This pre-conference workshop provides an overview of leadership behaviors expected of the clinical nurse and nurse manager. The five career development relationships that can be successfully implemented throughout a nurse's career are discussed, as well as new terminology in health care that is relevant for the nurse leader.

Objectives:

  • Define "Leadership" from the perspective of the practicing clinical nurse and the unit manager.
  • Describe the five career development relationships and their importance at various points in a nurse's career.
  • Discuss the relationship between quality, safety, and evidence-based practice.
  • Discuss new terminology in health care that is relevant for the nurse leader.
