Date: February 24, 2023

This presentation will provide insights about the different eras of veterans and key information to obtain when assessing a veteran regarding health care issues that may be related to their military service. Most veterans receive care in the civilian community where there may be little to no understanding of the military instead of a hospital or clinic for veterans. Medical-surgical nurses must know how to determine if a patient is a veteran and how to properly assess their physical and psychosocial needs.

Learning Outcome
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be able to discuss how to better assess veterans based on the information provided.
