Description
Understanding Race in Healthcare
As demographics shift in the United States, particularly in age and race, health care professionals will begin seeing an increase in diversity among patients and fellow professionals. This will require healthcare professionals to be better equipped to meet their patients’ and colleagues’ needs. Every person is unique and brings a variety of experiences. Race is one category that diversifies individuals. Race is used by society to separate humans into smaller groups based on visible characteristics. Unfortunately, some people make assumptions and change their behavior based on an individual’s race. In this course, learners will understand the history of racism, identify systemic racism, and examine how racism manifests itself in the healthcare environment.
