Gender Affirming Healthcare

Ensuring gender affirming care is integral to the spectrum of healthcare, yet there remains a notable gap in equipping healthcare workers with the necessary knowledge on best practices. This presentation aims to bridge that gap by offering a foundational understanding of gender affirming care. Attendees will leave equipped with the knowledge to confidently provide gender affirming healthcare to patients of all ages. Moreover, they will gain a deeper understanding of the science behind gender affirming medicine, the challenges that many transgender and gender diverse individuals face in terms of healthcare, and the many ways that we, as healthcare workers, can help.

Target Audience: Anyone who works in healthcare, including providers, nurses, CNAs, support staff, etc.

Outcomes: 

• Within 3 months of this presentation, 75% of attendees will implement at least one new gender-affirming practice or policy in their place of employment or healthcare facility.

Continuing Education: 

Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
