Diagnosis-specific clinical care pathways are evidence-based management guidelines supported by extensive literature, spanning decades, that demonstrate the ability to reduce healthcare costs while improving patient outcomes. The presenters of this session will share how they developed a four-day pneumonia care pathway which recommends best practice at various days of the hospitalization. This pathway when implemented in a hospital is an effective tool to reduce 30-day hospital readmissions, 30-day hospital mortality rates, and 360-day mortality post-hospital discharge.

Nurses are front-line workers in the healthcare industry and encounter over 20,000 assaults per year. This session aims to reduce victimization (nurse assaults) by arming the nursing profession with understanding and tactics to prevent attacks from happening as well as personal safety. We will zero in on body language behaviors that are displayed by those that intend to assault. Knowing these pre-assaultive behaviors can play a vital role in your daily work life.

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is critical in the ever-changing world of healthcare. Most nurses have heard about it. Some learned it in their undergraduate, graduate or doctoral programs. Some have never had any exposure to EBP in school or the real world. Do you have a culture that supports EBP where you practice? This session will address the role of evidence-based practice for the emerging nurse.

Many nurses find themselves seeking ways to escape the pain and desensitize themselves from the trauma they endured during the pandemic. As more nurses are turning towards ways to numb this pain, we are seeing an increase in diversion of narcotics from the workplace. During this general session, we will outline and discuss the process of how a nurse is suspected of diverting narcotics and the investigation utilized prior to the accusation of diversion. We will then continue our discussion on the journey a nurse takes once their employer reports the nurse to their state board of nursing and what steps are needed to protect the RN license and obtain necessary help to recover.
