Steve Lugar is a forty-year career law enforcement officer having served thirty-three years in municipal law enforcement. During his career he has held every level of supervision in areas such as community policing, tactical command, narcotic investigation, and intelligence review. Upon his retirement as Deputy Chief of Operations of the Roanoke Virginia Police Department, he accepted the position of Chief of Police (Senior Director) of the Carilion Clinic Police Department and has held that position for the past seven years. He is responsible for the security of seven healthcare facilities, two medical colleges, and numerous community family practices throughout Southwest Virginia.
Chief Lugar holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Liberty University. He is a graduate of the 205th session of the FBI National Academy, a graduate of the 7th session of the Police Executive Leadership Institute at the University of Richmond, and a graduate of the Executive Education program at the University of Virginia Darden School Foundation.
