Catherine Thomas is an Assistant Professor in the medical-surgical nursing program at Central Connecticut State University. Previously as a clinical educator and critical care nurse, she had a strong interest in the care of septic patients at the bedside. She has continued that interest in her faculty role by incorporating care of the septic patient into the medical-surgical nursing courses in hopes of building a strong foundation of knowledge for the program graduates. Currently she is working on developing a partnership with the medical-surgical step-down unit to offer education about sepsis and build links to external resources about sepsis on the institution intranet site at the hospital where she teaches. In the future she hopes to expand the nursing knowledge base by conducting research related to care of sepsis patients beyond the critical care units.
