Dr. Allison Perkins is a full-time faculty member at Mira Costa College, where she teaches first-semester nursing students. Dr. Perkins began her nursing career as medical-surgical nurse in San Diego, California, and transferred to critical care. She has been a CNS at the San Diego VA Healthcare System for the past 16 years, functioning as a CNS for a med-surg telemetry unit and most recently as director of the hospital's new graduate RN transition-to-practice residency program. Dr. Perkins has taught basic ECG interpretation for the last 17 years at a local and regional level. Dr. Perkins serves as an expert witness for medical-surgical telemetry lawsuits. She has been a member of AMSN since 2005 and has held local and national positions in AMSN. She obtained her MSN degree as an adult health clinical nurse specialist from the University of San Diego.
