Patricia Smart has been a nurse educator since 1986. She has taught medical-surgical nursing to students in the classroom and clinical settings. She considers herself a med-surg nurse and values and respects all the colleagues she has had the privilege of working with through her nursing career. She loves med-surg nursing and has been involved in the Deep South Chapter, 218, of AMSN since its establishment in 2001.
Several years ago, she began to work part time as a hospice case manager. In this position, she learned about a new component of nursing. It helped her to grow professionally, personally, and spiritually. Please allow her to share her story with you and help to increase your knowledge about palliative and hospice care! She is honored to enter patients’ homes and assist with their nursing care during a difficult time. Hospice care does allow death with comfort and dignity!
