Patricia J. Bartzak DNP, RN, CMSRN

Patty Bartzak is a bedside nurse on the burn/trauma unit at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. Over the past 7 years, Patty has cared for patients and families who have experienced the physical and emotional effects of life-changing traumatic injuries. In August 2012, Patty became AMSN's Joining Forces Coordinator, charged with researching traumatic injuries related to war as part of the Obama/Biden Joining Forces Initiative. Patty searched trauma journals, took armed forces training programs, and attended seminars to supplement general trauma knowledge to build AMSN's Joining Forces website. Patty completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in 2012 from Thomas Jefferson University, with a focus on Patient Safety. She also teaches part-time in an undergraduate nursing program. Patty is Trauma Nurse Core Certified (TNCC) and has completed course work in Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) and the American Burn Association (ABA). Patty's research interest is in the area of psychological safety, both for nurses working within an organizational unit and for patients who have experienced trauma.
