Kelly A. Tappenden PhD, RD

Kelly Tappenden received her PhD in Nutrition and Metabolism at the University of Alberta, underwent post-doctoral training at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, and joined the faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana in 1997 as Assistant Professor. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2003 and Professor in 2008, and invested as the Kraft Foods Human Nutrition Endowed Professor in 2012. In 2011 she was named a University of Illinois Distinguished Teacher-Scholar – the premier campus award recognizing excellence in teaching and learning. Dr. Tappenden’s research program focuses on malnutrition due to intestinal failure and associated therapeutic strategies. Beyond her years of service on multiple national nutrition committees, Dr. Tappenden served as the 33rd President of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition in 2008-09. Currently, she is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
