Dr. Simmons is a military nurse who has spent over 29 years serving as a medical surgical nurse. She has worked across the healthcare spectrum including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Orthopedics, the Emergency Room, and finally in education. Currently, Dr. Simmons serves as the Commandant for the Daniel K. Inouye (pronounced In-no-way) Graduate School of Nursing at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD where she is responsible for the military leadership and academic oversight of nurses. She is a proud graduate of Creighton University, George Mason University, Clarkson College, and the University of Texas at Austin. Her research interests surround spirituality, resilience, and improving the professional quality of life of nurses. She currently serves as the Lead of the DEI Education Subcommittee for AMSN.
