Objectives:
1. Describe multisystem pathophysiologic effects of alcohol intoxication and chronic abuse that may affect assessment and management.
2. Differentiate signs and symptoms of acute alcohol intoxication from withdrawal and other potentially life-threatening conditions.
3. Utilize appropriate assessment tools to evaluate a patient's likelihood of developing severe withdrawal and identify appropriate pharmacologic agents to prevent and manage symptoms.
