Deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism represent common and potentially
preventable adverse outcomes following surgery. Without prophylaxis, pulmonary embolism is a leading cause of post-operative mortality. This session explores a quality improvement initiative to allow nurses to feel more competent in both the administration of and knowledge base regarding VTE prophylaxis and how the utilization of the QI intervention has been instrumental in lowering the percentage of patient refusals.
